Scarf in process

Originally uploaded by illusionary_one

On the train and working on a scarf for Miss Fish’s Christmas gift. Listening to “Singing in the Rain” and enjoying the scenery going by.

Started it in plain stockinette, but frogged it around 5:30am since I didn’t like how it looked. Trying out a “diagonal stripe” texture now.

Punchneedle embroidery

How to keep occupied on a 20+ hour train journey? I’m learning loop embroidery. Since I started volunteering at SCRAP a couple of months ago, I’ve stumbled across a lot of cool stuff. This kit falls into that category.

Drew a quick pattern of a Kingdom of Loathing sabre toothed lime, and ran with it from there. So far, so good! The directions say the denser the fabric the better, so I am thinking about playing with some velveteen and other fun stuff once I get the basics mastered..

Also started knitting a scarf as a Christmas gift. Sent out a "request lines open now" email this week letting everyone know I am accepting hints for knitted Chistmas gifts. One response so far.

This is how they look before they are baked. All of these were drawn by hand, then colored with Prismacolor. They shrink to about a third of this size.

El Diablo necklace

This is an example of the shrunken plastic pendant necklaces I have been working on. And yes, there is a good chance those are rosary beads.

(also testing out posting here from my mobile phone – if it works, rejoice, as it will mean more frequent updates. This time I am using Flickr as an intermediary.)

Homemade Apple Pie

Originally uploaded by illusionary_one

My friend Kris let me borrow her combo apple peeler / corer / slicer. The intent was to do only dehydrated apples, but since Diana taught me a stupid simple tasty crust recipe, making a pie as well was definitely in order.

I think the apples are Fuji (definitely locally grown in Hood River), and the crust is slightly savory with rosemary and basil.

We wound up having apple pie for dinner, as well as breakfast the next day. I even saved a slice for Kris.
