Dad and Karen are up visiting this weekend, and we spent a lot of time browsing through Rejeuvenation Hardware and Hippo Hardware after a nice brunch at Old Wives’ Tales. We also had dinner at Kennedy School tonight. Trying to show them lots of local favorites. Afterwards we had coffee and dessert at Rimsky’s Korsakoffee, which I had described to them as “the coffeehouse that Sarah Winchester (of Winchester House fame) could have owned”. They had to make an obligatory trip to see the surprises in the bathroom, I bought them Gumball Poetry, and it took them a while to figure out the secret of the mystery table that we sat at. Interesting that they didn’t notice it until I had pointed it out to them. Their hints were “it’s subtle, and it’s right under your nose.” Dad and Karen looked both sheepish and amazed when it was all figured out. Fun.
I refuse to spoil the secrets of the Rimsky Korsakoffee House. If you want to find out what they are, you’ll have to go there yourself. They’re located at 707 SE 12th Ave in Portland, Oregon, and they’re open from 7pm to 11 or midnight, depending on the evening. Best to get there early because the tables fill up quickly. Yes, it looks like a residence from the outside, but trust me, it is a coffee house with excellent desserts. They are a cash-only establishment, and make sure you also tip the musicians. If you like Rimsky’s, you should also check out The Sylvia Beach Hotel in Newport, Oregon. It’s run by the same people, and it is a beautiful bed and breakfast with rooms themed after authors. Excellent food and a beautiful view of the ocean!
