Like being at camp again

Remind us to get to craft night a bit earlier next time. We just barely got a table and after that the chairs we weren’t using were pillaged for use at other tables. The place was packed, and channel 12 was there to do a small package and a live remote for the 10:30 news. (We left before the newscast.)
I’d wager that at least half of the attendees were knitting, and the other half were beading, covering outlet and lightswitch plates, painting tiles, playing board games, making Valentines, sketching, etc. It felt like grownup day camp and it was awesome! It was incredible to see so many people together just to be crafty and enjoy beer or wine. I even got to swap notes with some more experienced knitters.
Since everyone was chatting it was actually pretty loud in there so may not be the best atmosphere for something you really need to concentrate on. (You probably wouldn’t want to bring your welding project.) The light quality varied from table to table so I wasn’t able to knit with black yarn because I couldn’t see the stitches. We talked to the guy at the door on our way out and they are thinking about getting it started earlier in the day, which I think is a great idea. 8pm is great for bands, but for crafts there really isn’t any reason to start so late.
Denise and I agree that we would love to go again (it is a weekly event!) and I would also be interested in attending some of their dance classes upstairs. The upstairs is a dance floor and juice bar that is all ages, while the basement is a bar and (duh!) 21 and over. Nocturnal is a new kid on the block, but it is rapidly shaping into a terribly cool community resource.
